At LAVA, we believe in investing in long-term change, which is why we commit 2.5% of annual revenue to important causes, and there are few more urgent or more impactful than the growing challenges to young people’s mental health. That’s why we’re proud to have supported Place2Be this past year, and to see first-hand the difference our contribution helped make in schools and communities across the UK.
Place2Be’s latest impact report is more than just numbers, it’s a powerful reminder of what happens when the right support reaches the children and families who need it most. With more than 43% of the children they support eligible for Pupil Premium (additional government funding provided to state schools to help improve the educational outcomes of children from disadvantaged backgrounds), and significant numbers navigating special educational needs or protection plans, the charity’s work is focused where it matters, and the outcomes speak volumes:
- 78% of primary and 91% of secondary students showed improved mental health after one-to-one counselling
- 64% of parents said home life improved
- Nearly 70% of pupils reported better friendships
- 63% saw improved classroom learning, helping remove the barriers mental health struggles can cause at school
Place2Be’s approach goes far beyond direct therapy. They’re building a more sustainable, diverse mental health workforce, supporting teachers, working with parents and carers, and embedding support deep into the fabric of schools. Over 350,000 children across more than 650 schools benefited from their work last year alone.
We were particularly inspired by the charity’s work with families, recognising that children thrive best when the adults around them are supported too. Over 500 parents accessed personalised coaching support via in-school Family Practitioners, while 252 foster carers joined the Parenting Smart online course, and 95% of them said they’d recommend it. With 87% of children showing improved mental health, and 73% of those with severe needs experiencing better outcomes, it’s clear this whole-family approach is delivering real, lasting change.
As a business, we at LAVA know that meaningful change doesn’t come from the sidelines. It comes from backing organisations that listen, act early, and focus on building long-term resilience in young people. Place2Be is doing exactly that, and we’re incredibly proud to play a small part in their mission.
